The contestants from series five of the Great British Bake Off were reunited earlier this month as they gathered to celebrate Martha Collison’s wedding.

The bloom of youth

Martha was GBBO’s youngest contestant ever, and reached the quarter final of the fifth series. Since, she has found success as a regular columnist for Waitrose’s ‘Weekend’ newspaper-style magazine, and for writing two of her own cookbooks, ‘Twist’ and ‘Crave’, as well as her own baking blog.

The ultimate Bake Off

Instagram was packed with images shared by fellow contestants, both of themselves dressed up as wedding guests, and of the cakes that they made in honour of Martha’s big day. Claire Goodwin, who left the competition at the end of the very first episode, went for a tiered chocolate cake, while Nancy Birtwhistle created a sugary pink confection decorated with a pretty trailing floral theme and dotted with hearts.

Blooming lovely

Rather than one wedding cake, Collinson had a wedding cake table, featuring various beautiful bakes made with love and care by her fellow Bake Off contestants. Each contributed a cake, and while the designs varied, most featured floral decorations. This is very much in line with the contemporary wedding trend for all things botanical, which is seen on everything from the bride’s outfit and jewellery, to floral wedding stationery and, of course, the cake. In Martha’s case, cakes plural.

All Bake Off contestants as well as the bride had a fabulous day by all accounts. Here’s wishing she and her brand new hubby the sweetest of futures together.
