A church in Cheshire is offering couples the opportunity to tie the knot for just £1,000.

The cost of a UK wedding has never been higher with couples spending on average over £30,000 for their big day but St Johns parish church in Hartford is providing an economic alternative. Reverend Mike Smith of St Johns understands the huge costs couples face as they start a life in matrimony, stating:

“I have known people struggle with the stress of getting into debt because of these costs, but I’ve also known the costs to put people off getting married.”

With his ‘Grand Wedding Initiative’, the Reverend hopes to change this, providing couples with not only a beautiful day to remember, but an affordable event to launch their new life together.

The £1,000 wedding will be offered to a few fortunate couples. The church will be theirs for a venue complete with organist, flowers and a photographer. Wedding invitations and stationery for the service will be provided and the package will include a reception in the church centre. The catered reception for 30 guests includes a meal and a two-tier bespoke wedding cake for couple to cut.

All the happy couple need for the day is their own wedding clothes and if the bride’s dress is second hand and needs alterations, the church will carry them out for free.

Three dates in 2019 are now allocated for the Reverend’s Grand Wedding Initiative.
